This is my brand new site/blog filled with, well, crap about me, my music and other random stuff. Hope you like it =) Oh and if you didn’t know, I just launched my debut full length album, Realize. You can hear the ENTIRE album here.

A nice surprise was the fact that when I reached my grandma’s 3 our of 4 of my uncles were there (all eating the same rendang) and we were sharing ghost stories at the dinner table in true classic Wahab family style.
I rarely get to see them so it was nice to listen and talk and laugh.
I got a text today from Claude thanking me for introducing her to Game of Thrones. Heard of that? Most people would be more familiar with the TV series which is awesome but the true gems are the books. One thing I love about my friendship with Claude is our similar interests when it comes to popular media (she showed me DC was WAY better than Marvel) so I’m always happy when I introduce something to her that she likes. If you like reading and you haven’t checked it out do it now!
I also had practise today but not the usual kind. I’m a guest for Rhythm in Bronze‘s showcase in October and today I went for my first full practise. Their set is AMAZING. Rhythm in Bronze is a contemporary Malaysian gamelan troupe and easily one of my personal sources of inspiration in the creative arts. I always get blown away when they play. Can’t wait for the show and will post details soon =)
Hmm my cat just climbed into the house. I think I shall layan him a bit. Till the next post!
I told myself before I launched my album last November that I’ll get back into the swing of things blogging wise. I used to blog everyday back in uni on my trusty Xanga blog without fail. Ok la I was much free-er then. I do prefer these days to resort to pure pic-blogging (example being the last post on this site) but I guess once in awhile it’s nice to squeeze out one of these from time to time.
Ok so what’s been happening?
Well I’ve still been gigging like as much as I can since the launch and plan to keep doing so this year. I wanna play more uni/college shows as they’re a ton of fun. I just got confirmed for a USCI show mid-May so I’m looking forward to that. The last show I had was Pete Teo’s Songwriters Round at Alexis Ampang which was, as always, super fun. I got to meet and jam with Yohei Miyake, a top indie singer-songwriter from Tokyo, Japan. Dude is cool and brimming with positive vibes. Very charismatic performer and obviously quite passionate about the stuff he sings. Here’s a youtube vid:
Japan’s always been a bit of a holy grail for me so it is awesome that I know at least one musician there now. Hopefully it’ll lead to a lot excuses to go over. I think the only time I’ve ever been in Japan was in transit to go somewhere else (I forget where) at Narita. The end.
Bouncing around the idea of getting a PA. Been seriously slipping when it comes to details the past few weeks. Thing is I think I just need to get a bit more organised. Save my money that way :-p If it gets too busy I might have to change that though.
I have 3 birthday presents to get this week. One, for a comic/graphic novel fan so that means a trip to Kino. Happy times. If you read comics I’m getting her the latest trade paperback for Eisner-award winning series Fables. I’m also reading the intensely awesome and graphic Gantz manga at the moment.
Caught Rio the other day and it was pretty meh.
Playing something that’s called The *cough* Reza Salleh Spotlight Series at Italiannies, Empire Shopping Gallery this Friday. Cut me some slack ok, management wanted to have my name in the event list :-p Basically how it works is that I play a one hour duo/trio set and I get someone I want to ‘spotlight’ to do a 30 min opening set before. We’ve been doing it since Jan and so far I’ve had Aiqa Halim, The Halfway Kings and Cherry Lee aka The Bathroom Girl. This month we have the very talented and severely underrated Zalila Lee. She’ll also be part of my trio (me on guitar, Savy on violin/keys and Zal on percussion) so it’s gonna be a fun night!
Oh and I think I’m gonna be seeing the first edit for my first ever music video this week. Excited!
It’s been a crazy past few months and most of my time has been taken up be rehearsals for a show I’m doing this weekend. Me, singer-songwriters Mia Palencia, Zalila Lee and Tempered Mental brainchild Melina William are coming together to do A Shameless Covers Night 2, the sequel to our very successful covers night last in 2009. What we do is take songs we love, mangle ‘em up and present ‘em in a 4-way, multi-instrument acoustic collaboration show. We normally spend our time singing our own songs at gigs so this is a fun way for us to do something a lil’ different. Full details here.
Here’s a Beyonce medley we did as a preview at live music venue No Black Tie last week. Check it out!
I love the folks at KLue. I got to know about my first ever show (it was an open mic called Acoustic Jam) thanks to them! Here they are being nice again with a pre-launch interview about the album and the process that went into realizing (heh..sorry couldn’t resist) it. You can read the full article here.
They also did a pre-launch preview entitled Reza-lise (ho ho) awhile back. You can read that here. Thanks so much KLue!
